Amazon QuickSight – A New BI Analytics System To Disrupt The Market

Business Intelligence (BI) solutions made big, medium and small company managers’ life extremely easy by offering them reports and data analysis in a simple and efficient manner. Still, the cost of implementing and maintaining a BI solution, especially for a big company with several headquarters, can be quite expensive. Exploiting this need for cheaper BI solutions that offer at least the same quality and reliability, Amazon launched QuickSight, a cloud-powered solution that only require 1/10th of the costs a traditional solution would have implied.
What is QuickSight and how does it work?
The main purpose of a BI solution is to help non-technical people (managers, CEOs, CFOs) make sense of the data they receive from the field. The offering is only available for preview at the current moment, but it is expected to become one of the most popular cloud-based BI solutions. The costs are extremely low (starting with $9 monthly per each user) and Amazon team states it is one of the fastest solutions on the market.
To offer an example that highlights the speed of the services, QuickSight can offer data visualization within just one minute from loading the data in the system. For now (the list will definitely get bigger with time), the only type of data that can be uploaded on QuickSight are as follows:
- Amazon data services (EMR & Redshift);
- Stores of relational data (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle);
- Spreadsheets and CSV files;
- Salesforce app files.
Also, one of the things that will definitely make QuickSight a hit is the fact that you won’t have to design complex models of data anymore. The solution is designed to recognize the relation between data and offer visualization suggestions so you won’t have to think about this.
Why is data visualization so important?
If you’ve never had to build a report using Excel then maybe you won’t understand how important a BI solution is. Collected data comes under brute form and it’s extremely difficult to make sense out of it. This is why BI solutions help users to create reports and place data under a readable, understandable format.
QuickSight has the upper advantage over other BI solutions with increased speed (no one wants to wait around for the visualization to be compiled) and more power. Amazon offers its users access to SPICE (Super-fast Parallel In-memory Calculation Engine), an engine that delivers fast large data analysis.
The main advantage of QuickSight is the fact that you don’t have to be trained in data visualization in order to get useful results. The system is specially built to help customers understand how their data can be optimized and it is capable to understand what the user wants by simply lea
