The Power of Google Analytics

When it comes to collecting data about an individual’s browsing habits, more and more governments around the world are frowning upon activities that actively track and trace a person’s whereabouts. The concept of big brother isn’t a new one, and with so many countries turning to the internet in an attempt to better understand the people that use it; it can be a daunting task to surf in peace without taking extensive measures.
Fortunately, there are certain data tracking tools that adhere to privacy and data protection policies – the main of these being Google Analytics. Where other services may actually track specific data about a user, Google Analytics is simply a tool that allows a website’s owner to monitor the behaviour of their target audience.
Google Analytics was originally introduced to assist webmasters in their quest to keep an eye on the way in which their websites were used. These days, Analytics has become such an extensive tool that it’s now possible to monitor a variety of activities relating to a specific website; all of which refer to the person’s IP address, as opposed to their name and other private details.
The point of using Analytics isn’t to spy on the visitors of a website; it’s to assist a business when it comes to understanding their audience, their audience’s geographical locations, their behaviour and the ways in which they engage with the website itself. By understanding these unique pieces of information, it’s entirely possible for a business to modify particularly ineffective strategies that they use, before implementing new tactics and techniques to assist with sales and profits.
Relying on Google Analytics
Unlike other tracking tools that lack accuracy and precision – Google Analytics is a staple part of the Google brand, and as a result is updated frequently to ensure that all elements of online browsing are taken into consideration.
With the majority of internet users recently turning to their mobile devices to browse the web (95% in fact), other online tools are fast becoming obsolete as they’re simply unable to keep up with the more modern methods of browsing.
To coincide with the changing face of web use, Google Analytics has introduced new measures (taken from information collected from its own databases) – which now enable greater precision when it comes to monitoring views from a mobile device. When paired with filters and specific tools, the potential power of these measures allows a website owner to monitor all but the most sensitive of data, in order to tailor their strategies and enhance their business’ online presence.
