Three Things That Could Be Affecting Your Bounce Rate

If you’ve ever used Google Analytics, you’ll understand just how important it is to keep your bounce rate at a minimum if you want to see a return for your services. We can’t all maintain 0.00% bounce rates, in fact it’s considered a digital impossibility to maintain such a low level; especially if your website is actively receiving visitors. There are several main factors that can increase a website’s bounce rate, so let’s get to know what they could be.
Page Load Times
It’s a little known secret, but most visitors build an opinion of a website within 5 seconds or less. If those precious seconds are spent loading, then the back button will be pressed more than you may like. There are several techniques that can help to reduce page load times, and they typically involve compressing images, reducing resolution, and limiting the visual elements that are present.
Poor Call to Actions
People love to be intrigued, and what better place than a website to really stimulate their curiosity. Experts advise that a compelling call to action be placed once every 800 pixels (vertically), and adding one above the fold of a website has been proven to be the most beneficial. Keep it short, concise and easily understood and you’ll soon see a reduction in your bounce rate, in favor of finding out more about what you offer.
An Un-Cluttered Layout
Going hand in hand with your page load times, a cluttered page can act to put even the most forgiving viewer off. Aim for organized, neat categories that lead your audience to where you want them to be. It’s fine to add content to your home page, just keep it relevant and not overwhelming. Experts claim that websites with between 650 and 950 words of text on the home page are the most effective, but that doesn’t mean that a solid wall of text is the way to go; break it up a bit for the best results.
If your site is consistently suffering from a poor bounce rate, then there must be a fixable strategy that can be implemented. The most effective websites (and those that boast the greatest conversion rates) feature an aesthetically pleasing blend of imagery, visual engagements, informative content, and a few call to actions. If this doesn’t sound like your site, then it’s well worth re-evaluating your approach to online visibility.
